Description

The 74HC4060 is a 14-stage ripple-carry counter/divider and oscillator with three oscillator terminals (RS, RTC, and CTC), ten buffered parallel outputs (Q3–Q9 and Q11–Q13), and an asynchronous master reset (MR).

The oscillator configuration allows the design of circuits that use either RC or crystal oscillators. At input RS, an external clock signal can be used to replace the oscillator. Keep the oscillator pins (RTC and CTC) floating in this case.

On the HIGH-to-LOW transition of RS, the counter advances. A HIGH value on MR clears all counter stages and forces all outputs to be LOW, regardless of other input conditions. Clamp diodes are used as inputs. This allows current-limiting resistors to be used to interface inputs to voltages greater than VCC.
